This document underlines the code and conduct that should be followed by students as well as parents for keeping the orderly operations in the school. For any inquiry or to book an appointment for meeting a teacher / principal; or To talk to a teacher / principal regarding any issue or query; or Mail or contact at: coishelpline@gmail.com ; or leave a text/voice message at {inquiry phone number}.

The following acts and conduct on the part of the students will amount to misconduct :

  • Misbehaviour towards teachers or any other employee of the school.
  • Intentional disturbance of classes.
  • Absence from classes without the permission of the teacher or principal.
  • Bullying/intimidation of others.
  • Eve-teasing/misbehaviour towards girl-students.
  • Damaging /disfiguring school property.
  • Propagating a strike / disruption of classes.
  • Propagating communal/caste feeling amongst the students.
  • Indulging in physical violence in any manner.
  • Disobeying lawful orders of the teacher/Principal.
  • Bringing unauthorized people / articles inside the school.
  • Theft / pilferage of school / student’s property.
  • Any behaviour unbecoming of a student.
  • Indulging in acts of moral turpitude.
  • Use of prohibited drugs or alcohol.
  • Usage of abusive language, slangs or any offensive words meant to insult or demean someone.

In above acts of misconduct, Principal shall take suitable action as per observations of the disciplinary committee depending on the gravity of the misconduct, which may include:

  • Oral / written warnings to the student and parents.
  • Suspension from attending classes / school for a specified period.
  • Recovery of loss to school property.
  • Issue of Transfer Certificate.
  • Expulsion / Rustication from school.

The purpose of code of conduct

  • Promote disciplined and responsible behavior coupled with an understanding of respect for the rights of learners, members of staff and school community.
  • Ensure the safety and fair treatment of all learners.
  • Safeguard the integrity of the school so that it provides a safe and harmonious learning environment.
  • Clarify for learners the behavior and conduct expected of them and the values attached.

STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

Students have the responsibility to avoid any behavior that is detrimental to achieving their own or
other students’ educational goals. Students must cooperate in taking reasonable care of books, other instructional materials, technology, and encourage a climate where learning is cherished.

RESPECT FOR STAFF

Students have the responsibility of showing respect for the knowledge and the authority of school staff. Students must obey directions; use only acceptable and courteous language; and avoid actions that show contempt of authority appeal decisions through the channels as described in this Code. Assaults on school staff will not be tolerated. Bullying, harassment and/or cyber-bullying towards school staff are equally prohibited.

STUDENT IDENTIFICATION

All students must identify themselves upon request of school staff. All school students are required to wear student ID cards on campus. The ID badge must be clearly displayed on the front of the student.

INSUBORDINATION

A student will not ignore or refuse to comply with directions or instructions given by school authorities. Refusing to open a book, write an assignment, work with another student, work in a group, take a test, or perform any other class or school- related activity not listed herein, refusing to leave a hallway or any other school area, or running away from school staff when told to stop all constitute insubordination.

REFUSAL TO IDENTIFY SELF

Refusing to show or wear an identification card and/or give your correct name when requested by school personnel, or using another person’s name or identity.

STUDENT DEMONSTRATIONS

Any form of protest or demonstration that disrupts the normal educational process or that is conducted in a manner that violates legal restraints.

USE OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION DEVICES (“ECD”) SMART PHONES, CELLULAR  PHONES OR OTHER DEVICES THAT CAUSE DISRUPTION WHILE ON SCHOOL PROPERTY

Use of these devices is prohibited on school premises and in buses until unless permission is granted by a school administrator. Devices will be confiscated if carried. Devices may be searched if there is reasonable suspicion that the search will uncover evidence of further violations of district policies or law or injury to a student. Confiscated smart phones, cell phones, personal communication devices will be returned to the parent/guardian at the end of the school term.IMPROPER OR UNAUTHORIZED USE OF SCHOOL MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT

Using any school equipment, technology without obtaining prior approval of an administrator or teacher or improper use of any school equipment, technology or materials.

CHEATING/ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT

A student will not plagiarize, cheat, gain unauthorized access to, or tamper with educational material.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A student will not harass others or misbehave in a manner that causes disruption or obstruction to the educational process. Disruption caused by talking, making noises, throwing objects or otherwise distracting another constitutes disorderly conduct. Behavior is considered disorderly if a teacher is prevented from starting an activity or lesson, or has to stop instruction to address the disruption.

INAPPROPRIATE DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION

Students will not engage in inappropriate displays of affection.

LOITERING/TRESPASSING

A student will not enter upon the premises of the school, other than the location to which the student is assigned, without authorization from proper school authorities.

OBJECTIONABLE CONDUCT

A student will not orally, in writing, electronically, or with photographs or drawings direct profanity, insulting, obscene or other objectionable gestures toward any other person.

THREATS OF VIOLENCE/INTIMIDATION

Written, verbal or physical conduct, or electronic communication, that is intended to place one or more persons in fear of harm.

POSSESSION OF DANGEROUS OBJECTS

Dangerous objects, guns or knives explosives, firecrackers, clubs, mace, pepper spray and other irritant sprays.

Possession is defined to include:

Carrying the item; or Storing the item in a space used by or assigned to a student such as a desk; or Having the item under one’s control such as hiding a weapon in the building or on school grounds; or Voluntarily permitting another person to store the item in an assigned school space without reporting it to staff members.

USE OR POSSESSION OF ILLEGAL OR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES OR MATERIALS

Illegal or controlled substances include tobacco, alcohol, narcotics, drugs prohibited by law, over the counter medicines and prescription medications not prescribed for use by the student in possession of them.THEFT OR RECEIPT OF STOLEN PROPERTY  Taking or conspiring to take without permission of the owner or custodian or receiving or possessing property known to be stolen.

EXTORTION, COERCION OR BLACKMAIL

Obtaining money or property (something of value) from an unwilling person or forcing an individual to act by either physical force or intimidation (threat).

DEFACEMENT OF PROPERTY

A student will not willfully cause defacement of or damage to property belonging to the school or belonging to school personnel or persons in attendance at the school. Actions such as writing in school textbooks or library books, writing on desks or walls, carving into woodwork, desks, or tables, and spray-painting surfaces are acts of defacement.

INTERFERENCE WITH OR INTIMIDATION OF SCHOOL PERSONNEL

Preventing or attempting to prevent school personnel from engaging in their 15 lawful duties through threats of violence, harassment or intimidation.

INTERFERENCE WITH THE MOVEMENT OF PUPILS IN AND OUT OF SCHOOLS, BETWEEN  SCHOOLS, OR BETWEEN HOME AND AN ASSIGNED SCHOOL

Any action that prevents or delays scheduled transportation of pupils to and from school or that prevents pupils from entering or leaving schools at scheduled hours, or that causes fear or jeopardy to students while walking to and from an assigned school.

HARASSMENT

Written, verbal, or physical conduct that is persistent or pervasive that causes emotional distress or does the following to one or more students directly or indirectly: Substantially interferes with educational opportunities Adversely affects the ability of students to participate in or benefit from school programs; or Causes a substantial disruption to the orderly operation of schools.

GAMBLING

Participating in games of chance or skill for money or profit.

ADMITTANCE OF UNAUTHORIZED INDIVIDUALS INTO SCHOOL BUILDINGS

The act of knowingly and intentionally admitting or allowing an unauthorized person(s) into any school building, without expressed permission from the authorized person, through any unopened door or unmonitored point of entry in a manner that breaches any method of established security.

VERBAL ABUSE

Name-calling, racial or ethnic slurs or derogatory statements directed at, and offensive to, another person.

FORGERY/GIVING FALSE INFORMATION OR IDENTIFICATION

Intentionally misrepresenting information to school district personnel, such as giving false information, false identification or signing another person’s name to a document.ABUSE OF TECHNOLOGY  The act of tampering with or unauthorized use of computer hardware or software, including loading unauthorized software, making unauthorized copies of software, tampering with the hard drive, infection of computers with viruses, unauthorized internet access, unauthorized access to another’s files, computers, or computer systems, and computer network “hacking.”

FIGHTING

A physical confrontation between one or more students that may cause serious injury.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature which:

  • Substantially interferes with the student’s educational opportunities; or
  • Creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive educational environment; or
  • Otherwise adversely affects a student’s educational opportunities.

Forwarding, sending, using, sharing, viewing or possessing a sexually explicit image via text message, email, social networking websites and/or other electronic means using school property (computers, devices, networks, or servers) on school grounds or at school sponsored activities/events. Acts that occur off school grounds, outside of school-sponsored activities or on student owned devices that result in disruption to the orderly operation of school environment are punishable under this provision.

In above acts of misconduct, Principal shall take suitable action as per observations of the  disciplinary committee depending on the gravity of the misconduct, which may include:

Oral / written warnings to the student and parents. Suspension from attending classes / school for a specified period. Recovery of loss to school property Issue of Transfer Certificate Expulsion / Rustication from school.PARENTS / GUARDIANS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO:

  • Encourage and sensitize the child about the importance of observing school rules.
  • Work in collaboration with school for bringing out the best in the child.
  • Intimate the school about medical history and details of medication and allergy (if any).
  • Ensure that the child does not bring any electronic device to the school.
  • Spend time with the child and help him/her pack school bag or material required for activities in school.
  • Assist and guide the child in timely completion of home assignments and projects.
  • Develop independence and appreciation for quality homework.
  • Contact the class teacher during given hours in case the child is unable to resolve a problematic situation.
  • Encourage and motivate the child to participate in school activities and events with full enthusiasm and gusto.
  • Act respectfully to teachers, administrators, staff, other parents and students.
  • Bring to the notice of authorities in any case of bullying or abuse.
  • Attend PTM’s regularly and be respectful towards teachers at all times (including during conflict situation).
  • Ensure that the school diary is carried by your ward daily to the school. Check it daily for any communication from the school.
  • Send healthy and balanced meals in school lunch. Also ensure that the child has had adequate sleep, is well rested and had breakfast in the morning.
  • Send the child in clean and proper school uniform along with I-Card.
  • Restrict from entering the academic area during regular school days.
  • Monitor the child’s progress and meet the concerned teacher(s) by taking prior appointments on the given inquiry mail id or inquiry contact number.
  • Intimate the school about any change in address or telephone number.
